🥊 In the Ring Together

Putting out this newsletter a few times a week feels a lot like stepping into the ring — it takes heart, flexibility, and a whole lot of resilience. Just like caregiving.

I do it because I believe in supporting fellow caregivers through the chaos, the punches, and the unexpected jabs life throws our way. But truthfully, keeping this going is a bit of a financial uppercut.

If this newsletter has helped you roll with the punches, offered a little strength, or just made you feel less alone in the fight — and you're in a position to do so — I’d be incredibly grateful for a tip to help keep it going.

Whether you tip or not, I’m honored to be in your corner.

With heart,
Your fellow caregiver, Ben

Caregiver’s Corner: The Sweet Science of Dementia Caregiving

As a lifelong martial artist — 40 years now! — I have always appreciated the so-called “sweet science” of boxing.

I am awed by the technical prowess and wit of Muhammed Ali, the methodical precision of Lenox Lewis, the sheer POWER of George Foreman and Sonny Liston, and the courage and tenacity of Jack Johnson — the first black heavyweight world champion who first won the title in 1908.

For me, there is tremendous power in the ability to get back up every time I’m knocked down in life. Even for those who don’t enjoy the sport, I think there’s a lot to be learned from the attitude that allows champions to thrive.

Below, I’m giving you some of the great quotes about the sport from the people who lived it. Do they resonate for you? I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

“A champion is someone who gets up when he can’t.”
~Jack Dempsey

“To become a champion, fight one more round.”
~“Gentleman Jim” James Corbett

“The hero and the coward both feel the same thing, but the hero uses his fear… while the coward runs. It’s the same thing, fear, but it’s what you do with it that matters.”
~Cus D’Amato

"I could never have fought the way I did if I had worried about what people thought of me."
~Jack Johnson

“If you even dream of beating me you'd better wake up and apologize.”
~Muhammed Ali

"I never claimed to be the fastest or the smartest. But I showed up, and I didn’t quit."
~Randall “Tex” Cobb

Self-care doesn't have to be expensive or exotic. You don't need group hugs and earth-shattering enlightenment experiences. But you do need a few proven techniques. That's exactly what you'll find in this course bundle. No fluff: just a toolbox full of transformation and emotional alchemy that will help you deal with crisis situations and find peace in the middle of the maelstrom.

Coolest Billy Joel Moment EVER!

Since we’re talking about Billy Joel, I wanted to share one of my favorite videos with you.

When he was doing a Q&A at Vanderbilt University, he got a question he wasn’t expecting from one of the college students: “I was wondering if I could accompany you on piano for ‘New York State of Mind’.”

Without dropping a beat, Billy said “OK.” What happens next is absolute magic, and that brave young man got a moment to remember for the rest of his life. Click the video below to watch.
